Wood Flooring Application Instructions:

(Use the standard Odie’s Oil application instructions if you do not have access to a buffer)

Using a janitorial type floor buffer: Pour a pancake size puddle of Odie’s Oil onto the floor and buff into the wood with a red buffing pad. Buff the finish into the wood in the direction of the grain. Buff until the finish is completely worked into the wood fiber. Do not apply too much. Only use what is needed to saturate the wood fiber, and no more. The heat caused by the friction of the buffer will force Odie’s Oil oils and waxes into the wood, bringing out the woods natural depth and colors.

When the wood will not absorb any more oil, and the oil stays on the surface, it is time to move to the next area. Be sure not to leave any puddles of oil on the wood surface. Work any remaining amount of oil into the next area. Work in small sections until you have covered the entire surface.

One hour after application you are ready to buff the floor to a beautiful sheen. First use a fresh, clean white pad and remove any remaining Odie’s Oil from the surface of the floor. If the pad becomes saturated and is no longer effective, change it to a new one. Repeat until you buff the entire surface dry and free from any oil.

To ensure all oil is removed from the surface, a final buffing with clean white pads or cotton towel is recommended. Change your pads as needed until all traces of remaining oil residue are removed from the entire surface and the surface feels dry to touch. Your floor should have a beautiful sheen.

Stay off the surface for 72 hours and allow it to dry. Walk on surface with dry socks only, and keep the surface free of water for 2 weeks. This ensures even results; the longer the cure time, the better the results.

Easy Maintenance

Clean whenever needed with Odie's Super Cleaning Concentrate and water mixture (1:99 dilution) white vinegar and water mixture (1:10 dilution). Use Odie’s Oil as a touch up when needed. Simply wipe on and wipe off in any areas to be retreated. Now isn’t that easy?
Instructions for Polished Concrete

Grind surface with desired media (metals, pads, and or pucks).

Apply any repairs if needed (spall ,grout, ardex, etc).

Re-grind with desired media (metals, pads, puck). Stop at 400 grit or below

Vacuum and clean surface thoroughly.

Apply Odie's oil universal with a burnisher on low speed with a hog's hair pad or a finishing pad.

After full application, switch to clean dry pads and burnish surface at a moderate pace until surface is dry and smooth to touch. Be sure to change to clean pads regularly and burnish-buff until all Odie's oil is removed from the surface.

If polishing to a 800 or higher.

Polish surface to 400 grit.

Vacuum and clean surface.

Apply Odie's oil with a burnisher on low speed with a hog's hair pad or a finishing pad

Polish to 800 grit and re-apply Odie's Oil.

After application, switch to clean dry pads and re-burnish-buff at a moderate pace until the surface is smooth and dry to touch. Be sure to change pads regularly and burnish-buff until all Odie's oil is removed from the surface.

If polishing to 1500 grit or 3000 grit.

Apply Odie's oil at 800 grit as directed above and apply again after the final polish of 1500, 3000 or higher.

After burnishing, switch to clean dry pads and re-burnish-buff at a moderate pace until the surface is smooth and dry to touch

After application, switch to clean dry pads and re-burnish-buff at a moderate pace until the surface is smooth and dry to touch. Be sure to change pads regularly and burnish-buff until all Odie's oil is removed from the surface
The Densifier Coat is the First Coat.

Spall (grout cracks), let it dry some days.

When ready to grind, grind the floor to almost where you want it grit wise. Then remove the dust and debris.

Apply a coat of Odie’s Oil as the densifier coat. After applying, wait two hours.

Come back in and grind the concrete up to the higher grit that you want and remove all the dust and debris.

Apply Odie’s Oil again, and in about 30 minutes or less buff off all the excess oil with a floor buffer and pad.

Now your done. The floor can literally be moved in on and put into use the same day. See the instruction sheet for the other details thru this process.
General Application Instructions

Stir or mix your jar well as ingredients may settle over time.

Tools needed: A non-woven pad (rated above the grit or micron the piece has been sanded to) / A Clean Cotton Terry Cloth Towel.

Use the non-woven pad to work the product into your project surface. The friction from the application helps drive the product to the surface. Remember: A little Odie’s goes a long way, so don’t overdo it!

After working the product into the surface with the pad, allow it to set for 10 minutes to 3 hours (depending on the product used and surface applied to). You can wait, but your buff/wipe off may be a bit tougher. Do not allow the product to set for more than 12 hours! This will require a re-application to re-activate the finish for a proper buff/wipe off.

After waiting for the product to set up, take a clean terry (100% cotton) cloth towel and proceed to BUFF/WIPE OFF ALL the product from your project surface. When your towel has loaded up with product, switch to a new clean terry cloth towel until the entire surface is buffed off clean and NO product REMAINS. If you can swipe a clean finger across the surface and make no mark you are done.

Cure time for Odie's Universal and Super Duper light oil: most surfaces can be used within 24 hours and can be exposed to liquids within 3 to 5 days.

Cure time for the rest of our finishes: your piece can be handled almost immediately after buffing however, we suggest you give it a day or two to further the cure before any use. If you know the piece is going to be exposed to water or liquids, we suggest you give it 5 days of cure time for best results. On exterior decks, 4-5 days of dry weather is all that is required.

Additional coats of Odie’s products can be applied using these same easy steps above. We suggest waiting 24 hours in between coats.

For Epoxy/Resin projects we recommend using less oil than on wood - follow the same application process.

For Super Duper Oil and Super Duper Dark Oil wipe, brush, roll or spray on and work into the surface when possible. Be sure to wipe away any excess oil that remains on the surface. Formulated for wood, stone & concrete, clay & brick, metal, plastic.

For concrete, leather, or metal application- don't let the oil sit, BUFF OFF immediately.

When applying to concrete, the initial cure is much quicker - in most cases, the surface can be used within 8 hours.

For repairs or a maintenance re-coat, 10 hours of cure time is sufficient before use.

We don't recommend our Dark finishes for exterior use, all the rest of Odie's products are excellent for both interior and exterior use.

Are there any harmful chemicals in the Odie’s products?

Nope! There are no harmful chemicals, solvents, VOC’s, or hardeners in Odie’s finishes.

What can Odie’s be used on?

Odie’s Finishes can be used on virtually any surface. This includes, but isn’t limited to wood, concrete, clay, marble, brick, metal, plastic, leather, and epoxy.

Can Odie’s products be used outdoors?

All Odie’s products can be used outdoors with the exception of our dark products.

Does Odie's offer UV and weather protection?

Yes, Odie's finishes offer UV and mold protection. But, for additional protection we recommend you add Mr. Cornwall's Creative colours which will act as sunblock. Refresh your piece as needed and be sure to keep the surface clean to reduce any chance of mold growth. We do not recommend Odie's Dark Finishes for outdoor use.

How can I clean things that are finished with Odie’s products?

There are three different ways to clean things that are finished with Odie’s products:

You can mix 1 part vinegar with 10 parts water and clean with a terry cotton cloth.

You can use soapy water (like dish soap), but remember to rinse all the suds off, and then wipe it dry.

You can make your own cleaner using Odie’s Cleaning Concentrate. To do this, you can make a mixture - mix 2% of Odie's Cleaner Concentrate with 98% water in a spray bottle. Just spray, wipe clean, and dry.

When should I refresh my finish?

In most instances, you will not have to refresh for many years. But when needed, just clean the surface and a simple light reapplication with one of our finishes is all that is needed.

Can I use Odie’s oil on top of an already present stain or finish?

Yes - but it’s always best to use Odie's directly on the surface. You can ake your own stain with one of Mr. Cornwall's Creative Colors and Odie's Oil, or any one of the Odie's finishes. Choose your color here.

Can I order all of the Odie’s products if I am not in the USA?

Right now we are unable to ship the Odie’s Safer Solvent, and the Cleaning Concentrate outside of North America.

How many square feet of wood can one 9oz jar of Odie’s Oil cover?

Depending on the wood type, Odie’s Oil can cover up to 250 square feet on most domestic wood species, and over 500 square feet on denser wood species. It is the most efficient finish on the market!

How long can I let my Odie’s sit on a shelf once opened?

There are a lot of environmental factors that will contribute to preserving the shelf life of your Odie's product. We recommend using a finish preserver such as Bloxygen to lengthen the shelf life of your Odie's.

Why is my Bloxygen can so light?

Bloxygen is a gas, so it is normal for it to feel extremely light.

Why is the wax so hard?

Our wax is a traditional hard wax, so it’s supposed to be hard.

Can I mix pigments into Odie’s oils?

Yes! You can mix any oil compatible pigment into the Odie’s oils to make a stain, but we recommend Mr. Cornwall’s Creative Colours.

Do I need to sand in between layers?

No. You do not need to sand in between layers, but you can if you'd like to.

How do I get a better sheen?

Your sheen will depend on the quality of finish prep as well as on the sanding grit used. The lower the grit, the more matte the sheen, and the higher the grit, the higher the sheen. When sanding to a higher grit remember not to skip grits.
